IndeModular has been awarded the Eolo Innovation 2015 prize by the Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE)

The Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE) has awarded INDEOL and the National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER) for the “development and validation of IndeModular, a new joint system for modular wind turbine blades”. The jury for this year’s edition has considered that this system “stands out for its newness to facilitate transport and assembly of the large blades of the new generation of wind turbines, especially for offshore wind farms when the blade manufacturing plants are not located on the coast”.

IndeModular is a removable joint system which is located in the blade spar cap. It consists of several cell units, each one comprising four metallic inserts bonded to the spar cap, their respective bolts and nuts, and an intermediate plate. The system has been optimized for maximum load density per spar cap width, thereby providing a lightweight and very strong connection.

The Eolo Innovation prize award is encompassed within the joint action plans between the AEE and the Spanish Wind Energy Technology Platform (REOLTEC) for supporting innovation and the Spanish technology development. The award ceremony took place in Madrid on 22 June 2015, in the framework of the First Spanish Wind Power Congress.
